Ikpeazu told the delegation that the American Embassy in Nigeria has always had a robust relationship with the state and this was further strengthened with the visit of the Ambassador, Mr. Symington to Umuahia some months back. The Governor thanked the American government particularly because of their support to medicare in Abia State through the donation of several kinds of medical equipment which are distributed to various hospitals in the State. He assured that the Mother and Child Care Hospital Project in the State will have huge American content when completed.

The Governor also noted that the diaspora inflow into the state from our citizens who live and work in the US is a major factor in our economy and thanked the US Government for supporting our people.

He also informed them about the Enyimba Economic City and looked forward to having American companies as key operators in the Project and assured them that his government is taking security matters very seriously and has continued to provide support to security agencies in the state.

Speaking earlier, the leader of the delegation and Political Officer in the American Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Shashank Iyer told the Governor that they were in Umuahia as part of a wider tour of the South East states with Abia being the first in line.
He conveyed the formal congratulations from the Ambassador of the US to the Governor on his successful re-election into office and noted that the Abia State Governor is a leader who is committed to reforms which explains why the American Embassy takes Abia State very seriously in her programs.

“The tour of the South East by the Embassy is to expand and seek new partnerships with the people and government of the states of the South East with Abia being at the top of that list”.

The meeting later went into a closed door session.
